McDonald’s ‘secret menu’ is out. How to order new fan-inspired mashups

McDonald’s unofficial “secret menu” is officially out of the bag — but only for a limited time.

The national fast food chain is expanding its menu to include four “new” sandwiches, each inspired by fans’ custom creations, or “hacks,” featuring McDonald’s most popular menu items, according to a news release.

The fan-favorite creations will be available to order by name at restaurants nationwide starting Jan. 31, McDonald’s said. Orders can also be placed on the McDonald’s mobile app or via McDelivery.

Each order comes with all the items you need to create your ideal mashup. But McDonald’s is leaving the building to you “because that’s half the fun.”

Breakfast lovers stuck between choosing a crispy hash brown or savory Sausage McMuffin can enjoy both in the new Hash Brown McMuffin sandwich. The aptly dubbed Crunchy Double combines two lunchtime favorites: a double cheeseburger topped with chicken McNuggets and tangy barbecue sauce.

Rounding out the new mashups, there’s the Land, Air & Sea featuring a Big Mac and a McChicken stacked on a Filet-o-Fish, and the Surf + Turf for those “craving the flaky crunch of a Filet-O-Fish” and “the juiciness of a double cheeseburger.”

“This campaign shows that it has never been ‘our menu’ — the menu belongs to our fans,” Jennifer Healan, vice president of U.S. marketing, brand content and engagement for McDonald’s USA, said in a statement.

“We’re excited to celebrate them in a bigger way than ever before by putting their delicious hacks – as seen on social media – on our menus,” Healan said.

The Hash Brown McMuffin, the Crunchy Double and the Land, Air & Sea will be available to order in-store, at the drive-thru, via delivery or in the McDonald’s app, according to the release. The Surf+ Turf is available exclusively on the mobile app and through McDelivery. It’s unclear how long they’ll be available to order.
