During Angela Rye’s State of the Union special on BET, Congresswoman Maxine Waters delivered a scathing response to President Trump‘s State of the Union address and his claim about wanting to unify the country.

In a pretaped speech, Waters said, “One speech cannot and does not make Donald Trump presidential. He’s not presidential and he never will be presidential. He claims that he’s bringing people together, but make no mistake: He is a dangerous, unprincipled, divisive, and shameful racist.”

Waters cited the multiple times during Trump’s first year in office when he divided the country with his rhetoric. She said, “After Trump defended white supremacists, targeted Muslims with his travel ban, described Mexicans as rapists, and mocked people with disabilities, it’s impossible to believe him when he tries to declare he wants to bring the country together.”

But she left her most scathing remarks for the end of her speech. She said, “This president, with his vulgarity and his disrespect for women and people of color, is a terrible role model for our children. Whenever he appears on TV, there should be a disclaimer that says, ‘This may not be acceptable for children.'”
