Max is adding an on-screen top 10 ranking of trending titles, joining Netflix and other streaming rivals that offer the feature.
The chart will debut in the U.S. over the next week, with other countries expected to add market-specific rankings down the line. Titles must be new in order to qualify for the ranking. Series must have had a new episode hit Max within a 6-week period, while movies must have debuted on the streamer within an 8-week period.

The Flash is currently the No. 1 movie title in the U.S., while Hard Knocks: A Season with the New York Jets tops the series list.
The list will be found on the Home page as well as the Series and Movies pages.
Max arrives at the ranking by assessing the number of unique user profiles watching a particular title, refreshing the list daily. Viewing of any title for at least 2 minutes is required. Netflix, which added its Top 10 in 2020, initially used the 2-minute threshold but later moved to a metric based on total viewing hours divided by the length of an episode or movie.
Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+ also have Top 10 lists. As is the case throughout the internet, including on this very website, including a live ranking of trending content is considered a tried-and-true way to increase engagement. “Whether you love books, music, films or TV, top 10 lists are a great way to find out what’s popular,” Netflix wrote in a blog post in 2020.
Linear tune-in to titles airing on HBO or Discovery networks plays no role in Max’s Top 10. Last May, Warner Bros. Discovery renamed HBO Max as Max. The service, which originally launched in 2020, also added a raft of Discovery+ programming for the rebrand. Discovery+ remains available as a cheaper, stand-alone offering.
In the quarter ending June 30, WBD reported having 97.6 million overall streaming subscribers. That was a dip of 1.8 million from the previous quarter due to the Max rebrand and resulting (and expected) loss of Discovery+ subscribers who shifted to Max.
