MasterChef judge honours chef who died during marathon

The late MasterChef: The Professionals contestant who died during last weekend's London Marathon has received a tribute from one of the show's judges.

Matt Campbell, who competed on the BBC cookery competition last year, tragically collapsed and later passed away while competing in the marathon in memory of his own late father.

Campbell had completed the Manchester Marathon earlier in the month, and was taking part in the London counterpart in honour of children's charity The Brathay Trust.

His loved ones and people inspired by his story have decided to complete the 3.7 miles left in Campbell's London Marathon journey as a part of a social media movement called Finish For Matt.

Supporters are urged to donate to a JustGiving page that Campbell had previously set up for the Brathay Trust, and then complete the 3.7 miles wherever they live.

Among those who've pledged to take part is The One Show co-presenter Alex Jones, who also aired a special tribute to Campbell from MasterChef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti during Thursday's edition of the BBC One chat show.

"I would like to send my sincere condolences and heartfelt love to Matt's family," she said. "To those running the last few miles for Matt, I think you're doing an amazing thing and I wish you the best of luck."

Following the chef's tragic death, MasterChef also released a social media remembrance that described Campbell as "a privilege" to have on the show.

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
