We're just a week away from Marvel's What If...? debuting on Disney+ and we've been given a special look at a brand new character entering the MCU.

In a featurette shared by Marvel, The Batman's Jeffrey Wright pulls back the curtain on The Watcher, the series' narrator of sorts, who the actor voices.

"Reality is not a straight line," Wright says in the clip. "Every passing moment is a chance for a new offshoot. A new variation. In fact, there are more realities than you can possibly fathom.

"An infinite number of, what if? The stories you thought you knew are nothing like you remember."

The Watcher, as Wright explains, is the person who sees everything, the totality of the multiverse across all time and space.

Marvel has already confirmed that the first episode of What If...? will follow Hayley Atwell's Agent Peggy Carter and will focus on her transformation into Captain Carter, as she takes the serum instead of Steve Rodgers.

What If...? is Marvel's fourth television series on Disney+ but its first animated offering. But don't let the lack of live action fool you into thinking it's any less important than a Loki.

Speaking earlier this week, showrunner Brad Winderbaum explained: "I think that, without going into great detail, I can tell you that What If…? – as a project, as a story that exists in the MCU – is as important as any other and is woven into that tapestry."

Marvel's What If…? will premiere on Disney+ on August 11, 2021.
