Mark Cuban calls President Donald Trump an 'idiot,' says Trump encouraged him to run for president

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban doesn’t have anything against President Donald Trump personally, Cuban just believes Trump is an “idiot.” That’s pretty much exactly what Cuban said on the podcast “Just B with Bethenny Frankel” on Wednesday.

Cuban, 62, was trying to make the distinction between Trump as a person and Trump as the president. Cuban believes Trump is an “idiot” in his role as the president, according to USA Today.

“Look, personally I don't have a problem with the guy,” Cuban said. "Now professionally as the president, I think he's an idiot. You know, I never thought he was smart in talking to him.”

Cuban added he didn’t think Trump actually wanted to win the presidency in 2016. Cuban also said Trump was the first person to tell Cuban he should run for president. Cuban reportedly considered the idea, even compiling research to show whether voters would support an independent candidate. Ultimately, Cuban said his family wasn’t on board with the idea.

Mark Cuban was initially supportive of Donald Trump

Prior to the 2016 election, Cuban said he was supportive of Trump’s campaign. Cuban addressed those comments on the podcast, explaining he never felt Trump would win, adding that he and Trump are no longer on good terms.

"When he first started to run, I said ‘Donald Trump was one of the best thing to happen to politics because he speaks his mind.’ I basically said he doesn't give a f---. He's not a politician. I had no inkling that he might win. And so we would talk all the time after I said that, because I was supporting him. Because again, I didn't think he would win. And then as I started talking to him more about things, I asked him questions about real estate and he didn't really understand the financial side of real estate ... It was just clear he wasn't somebody who learned about anything. That's where we kind of had our falling out."

In June, Cuban said he would support Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
