On the calendar today is National Something on a Stick Day, which celebrates the panoply of foods that can go on sticks. Chicken, pork, ice cream, corn, maybe an entire turkey if you’re brave enough. You can also read the Lexington Herald-Leader on stick, it might not be easy but you can do it.

Lexington & Central Ky.

A new three-story, 105-unit apartment complex is coming to Lexington, but the owner of the property is first going to let the local fire department uses the site for extensive training.

Here’s more, specifically, about the multi million-dollar Lexington apartment complex, and also the firefighter training.

Another of Lexington’s O’Charley’s restaurants is officially gone. The location at 2895 Richmond Rd. is being demolished to make way for a new building.

Now, a new building will be going up for new franchise at the old Richmond Road spot. What’s going in? Herald-Leader reporter Janet Patton has the answer.

And Main Event, one of the fastest growing brands in fun, is opening its Lexington location this week on Canary Road, near the intersection of New Circle and Nicholasville Roads. The Herald-Leader got a first look at the venue with the slogan “Eat Drink Play and Watch.”

Eighty-five of the more than 100 arcade games at Main Event can be played with multiple players.

Politics

More than 100 bills and resolutions passed by the 2023 Kentucky General Assembly have become law with — or in a few cases, without — the signature of Gov. Andy Beshear.

There are still two more days left in the legislative session — Wednesday and Thursday — so this story will be updated as more bills receive final passage and the Republican supermajority seeks to override Beshear’s vetoes on some of their priority pieces of legislation.

Here’s a rundown of Kentucky’s newest laws as of now.

Speaking of bills that could still pass, Herald-Leader columnist Linda Blackford makes the case that it’s finally time to legalize medical marijuana in Kentucky.

Sports

Reed Sheppard is making significant Kentucky boys’ high school basketball history this week in Houston.

With his selection to this year’s boys’ edition of the McDonald’s All-American Game out of North Laurel High School in London, Sheppard is just the 15th player from the commonwealth to be named a Burger Boy since the game began in 1977.

Furthermore, Sheppard is an ultra-rare McDonald’s All-American from Kentucky who isn’t from a Lexington or Louisville high school. Just how rare is that?
