Maple Leafs top Sportico's list of most valuable NHL franchises

Sports data company Sportico released its 2021 list on Thursday, crowning the Toronto Maple Leafs, worth $2 billion, as the NHL’s most valuable franchise.

The New York Rangers ($1.87 billion), Montreal Canadiens ($1.58 billion), Chicago Blackhawks ($1.36 billion) and Boston Bruins ($1.31 billion) round out the top five.

The Edmonton Oilers were ninth at $1.16 billion, the Vancouver Canucks 11th at $975 million, the Calgary Flames 16th at $840 million, the Winnipeg Jets 22nd at $745 million, and the Ottawa Senators 29th at $540 million.

The Seattle Kraken, the league’s newest expansion team debuting this season, came in 14th, valued at $860 million. The combined market value of the 32 NHL teams is around $30 billion.

On Sportico's full list — which includes franchises in the NFL, NBA, MLB and MLS — the Maple Leafs rank 59th.
