Maple Leafs fans voted 'most annoying' in Twitter survey

Toronto Maple Leafs fans just can't catch a break.

A fan survey conducted by Twitter user JFresh Hockey revealed that Leafs fans are considered to make up the most annoying fanbase in the NHL.

The Toronto faithful were also voted to be the most delusional fanbase, as well as the one most prone to melting down.

The survey, launched on Sunday morning, comprised of 13 questions, including quizzing fans on which fanbase they find most delusional and whether hockey media pays enough attention to their favourite team. Over 6,500 people participated in the questionnaire.

The New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens rounded out the top three, while Edmonton Oilers fans were deemed to be the fourth-most annoying group in the league.

Predictably, fans took issue with the survey and its results, arguing that some fanbases were better represented than others, thus skewing the results. In response, JFresh Hockey posted an adjusted model, which backed up the original survey's results.

Some self-aware Leafs fans accepted the results, even celebrating a long-awaited first-place finish.

The Carolina Hurricanes were voted as having the most low-key annoying fanbase, while Colorado Avalanche supporters were selected as the fans that are most appreciated in the NHL. Meanwhile, over 80 percent of Canadiens fans surveyed found their own fanbase to be annoying, while around 75 percent of Leafs fans found themselves to be insufferable.
