Here’s who has to get vaccinated and who doesn’t at this Charlotte area airport

Allegiant Airlines is operating more than 100 departures this month out of the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport near Charlotte.

The company, the only commercial airline operating out of the Concord airport, is categorized as a government contractor under the federal COVID-19 vaccination rule, according to Allegiant spokeswoman Hilarie Grey.

That means the airline must require all employees be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8. The airline did not give further details about the employee vaccine mandate.

Here’s a breakdown of vaccine requirements by companies at the Concord airport.

Concord-Padgett Regional Airport

The airport is run by the city of Concord. The city is not requiring vaccinations for airport employees, according to Concord spokeswoman Lindsay Manson.

The city of Concord Aviation Department has 45 full-time employees.

The city of Charlotte, which operates the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, has not issued vaccine requirements either, but the city offered financial incentives for employee vaccinations.

As of Sept. 1, 67% of the Charlotte Aviation Department’s 638 employees were fully vaccinated.

Allegiant Air

The airline must follow the federal COVID-19 vaccination rule as a government contractor. That includes Allegiant’s pilots and flight attendants.

But the airline’s ground operations at Concord are handled by a third-party contractor, Trego-Dugan.

Trego-Dugan has about 35 employees working with Allegiant at the Concord airport.

It’s not clear whether third-party contractors are subject to the federal mandate, Grey told the Observer in an email.

Trego-Dugan leaders did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Transportation Security Administration

TSA employees, including security checkpoint screeners, are required to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 22 under the federal mandate.

As of Oct. 13, about 60% of TSA employees had been vaccinated, CNN reported.
