Detectives have launched a CCTV appeal after a couple were violently assaulted in an unprovoked attack on Halloween.

The man, aged in his 30s, and his girlfriend were walking through Croydon town centre, in south London, just after 10pm on October 31 last year when the incident took place, the Metropolitan Police said.

The pair were on their way to a nearby bus stop when a group of four men approached and started threatening them.

The thugs then launched their unprovoked attack and began to punch the man in the head and across his body.

His girlfriend attempted to stop the assailants but was grabbed by the hair and thrown to the floor.

As the four suspects started to walk away, the male victim shouted at one of them.

This suspect retaliated by picking up the man and throwing him on his head to the ground.

He lost consciousness and suffered fractures to the back of his head as a result, the force said.

The victim was rushed to hospital after passers-by called 999. He was discharged following treatment.

On Monday, Scotland Yard released images of three of the four men involved in the attack.

Anyone who recognises the men or who has any information that could assist police, is asked to call 101 quoting the referencing CAD 10224/31OCT20.
