A man tried to snatch a five-year-old boy from a west London park before being confronted by the child’s mother.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of the suspect following the attempted abduction in Northolt.

The man approached the young boy in Northala Fields, picked him and ran with him a short distance before the child’s mother managed to intervene, police said.

He is described as having a pale complexion, of slim but muscular build, possibly with a moustache, and was wearing blue or green hooded top, with a small white logo across the front, blue jeans with rips on the front and black trainers.

A manhunt has been launched and detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward. The attempted abduction took place at about 2.30pm on January 7.

Detective Constable Ashleigh Nelson from West Area Command Area CID said: “Incidents of this nature are very rare but I understand the concern it may have caused in the local community. I want to reassure people we are doing everything we can to find out who is responsible.
