Moore hasn’t delved too deeply into planning her wedding yet, but told Yahoo Lifestyle at the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express ‘Friendsgiving’ lunch on Thursday afternoon that she’s going to be keeping things low-key. “It’s going to be quiet and private, and hopefully it will happen, and then you guys will find out about it,” she said, with a grin.
The 33-year-old actress is, however, grateful to friends such as Minka Kelly, This is Us co-star Susan Kelechi and hairstylist Ashley Streicher for throwing her a lovely shower to celebrate her impending nuptials — which will be Moore’s second walk down the aisle, following a seven-year marriage to singer Ryan Adams, which ended in June 2016.
“I am not a supertraditional girl in pretty much every sense — especially when it comes to the wedding and engagement; I was very hesitant,” Moore said, adding that she doesn’t enjoy being the center of attention. “I feel uncomfortable. I’m not looking to have a big lavish affair when it comes to a wedding, so I’m like I don’t need to do any of that other stuff. But my friends thought otherwise.”
Her shower consisted of a bunch of her girlfriends playing “silly games” like Bridal Pictionary and lots of laughs. “I’m not competitive, but you find out who your competitive friends are,” she joked of the experience. “It was like Team A and Team B, and Team B was aggressive!”
Moore’s favorite part of the day was when each of the women in attendance took a moment to open up about their own married lives and to dish out their favorite relationship-oriented words of wisdom. “To gather this specific group of women — some who knew each other, some who didn’t — and to be able to be vulnerable and share those stories about our lives was really beautiful,” said Moore. “I heard some great advice, where I was like, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard that from some of my friends.’ And hearing from my mother-in-law and hearing from my best friend was great! We talked about things you don’t always talk about, even your close girlfriends, the topics that haven’t necessarily been broached in that way before. I loved that.”
While Moore is still basking in the afterglow of her friends’ generosity in throwing her the brunch, her gal pals are already onto the next item on their friend-of-the-bride checklist, the bachelorette party.
“I told them I don’t want to have a bachelorette weekend, but we can have a girl’s trip,” said Moore. “That way, my friends who are married and have kids can feel like they are getting a little time away from their families.”
