Manchester United are expected to be without Dan James for today’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa, while there is positive news on Anthony Martial's progress.

James missed the trip to Italy as United lost to Roma but won on aggregate to confirm their place in the Europa League Final against Villarreal. Solskjaer said ahead of the second leg tie: "Dan James is not available. He's still out for a little while."

Martial was expected to miss the remainder of the season but there is now fresh hope that he could feature after being spotted in training.

Solskjaer added: "Anthony's looking good. He has just about started outside jogging, which is the first step on the rehab of course.

"He's done most of the work in the gym and to see him out there getting some fresh air is good and hopefully we will see him before the season is out. He's supporting the team, he wants to be a part of the final and he's working hard to be available before that."

Elsewhere, Solskjaer will rotate with a tough schedule of three games in five days following the rescheduling of their postponed Liverpool game.

Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were withdrawn at half-time in Rome, so should start, followed shortly afterwards by Paul Pogba.

Edinson Cavani was replaced by Marcus Rashford with 20 minutes to go, so the latter could come into the starting line-up at Villa Park.

Bruno Fernandes played 84 minutes, so might be saved by Leicester on Tuesday. Mason Greenwood played the full game and is another who could sit out the Sunday trip.

Dean Henderson is now above David de Gea in the pecking order and will come in.

Manchester United predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, Matic; Greenwood, Van de Beek, Pogba; Rashford

Manchester United provisional squad: Henderson, De Gea, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Williams, Lindelof, Maguire, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Telles, McTominay, Fred, Matic, Van De Beek, Mata, Pogba, Fernandes, James, Diallo, Greenwood, Rashford, Cavani

Injury list: Martial, James, Jones
