Manchester United vs Crystal Palace - LIVE!

Marcus Rashford won a first-half penalty before scoring himself in the second half as Manchester United survived a straight red card for Casemiro to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

The visitors found themselves behind early when a VAR check showed Will Hughes had handled a ball from Rashford in the box, and Bruno Fernandes sent Vincent Guaita the wrong way from the spot in the seventh minute. With Palace struggling to create chances, Rashford netted the second with a simple finish after a move that featured some superb short passing as United looked set to cruise to victory.

However, Palace were thrown a lifeline when Casemiro was shown a straight red card for grabbing Hughes by the throat as both sides clashed following a tackle on Antony, and Jeffrey Schlupp pulled a goal back in the 76th minute to give them hope. The visitors poured forward looking for an equaliser but United coach Erik ten Hag sent on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to help stem the onslaught as they hung on for the win.

Manchester United made it 13 wins in row at home as they battled to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Not since Real Sociedad won at Old Trafford in the Europa League in September have Erik ten Hag’s side suffered defeat on home soil, and that record did not appear to be in any danger when Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford put the hosts two goals up.

Casemiro was shown a straight red though for grabbing Will Hughes by the neck with 20 minutes remaining, and that changed the game. Jeffrey Schlupp halved the deficit with a smart finish to set up a grandstand finish, but the visitors could not find a late equaliser.

“He is still on the treatment table,” Vieira said in his pre-match press conference.

“His injury will take a couple of weeks. We will have to do without him. Wilfried is somebody who recovers quite quickly. We don’t want to put a date on his injury.”

Erik ten Hag has admitted Man United will struggle to replace Christan Eriksen.

The midfielder is set to be out until late April or early May after suffering an injury in the FA Cup against Reading, a blow that led to United moving for Marcel Sabitzer

“I think you can never fill that because every player has their own characteristics and identity, so another player will always fill it in in a different way,” Ten Hag said.“So, it doesn’t mean that you have to be less successful but it’s quite clear that Christian Eriksen, for our squad, brings top quality and he has some specifics that are hard to replace. For instance, his impact in the final third, [his] final ball.”

Erik ten Hag had previously suggested the winger was not physically or mentally ready for first-team action, but the Englishman now appears to be part of his plans again.

On Sancho, Ten Hag told reporters after Wednesday’s game: “I think it was great, the reception from the fans to him, and also that will give him even more a push to continue in the way he’s now acting, he’s just started again, the restart he’s back at Carrington for two weeks, we see that smile and hopefiully he can keep that and contribute to the team.

“He has really high standards, great capabilities to contribute to our team, especially now the team is improving, we’re playing more in the opposition half, his capabilities come in more in front and come in more, he can have more touches on the ball, that is what his game gives the best performances, the best platform to perform.”
