Manchester United are finally closing in on the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.

Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is poised to move to Old Trafford in a transfer worth an initial £13million.

The 22-year-old was pictured arriving at United's Carrington training ground last night and is poised to undergo a medical on Monday as the final details of the deal are wrapped up.

Ten Hag is a known admirer of Malacia, who has five senior international caps for the Netherlands, having been impressed by his performances for Feyenoord against Ajax in the Eredivisie last term.

Lyon had looked set to clinch a deal for the player, only for United to swoop in and effectively hijack that move last week.

Malacia will compete with England's Luke Shaw for the starting left-back role in Ten Hag's first season in charge, with Alex Telles' future in question.

United remain in talks over a deal for Malacia’s international colleague, the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

However, considerable doubts remain over Cristiano Ronaldo, who is missing pre-season training at Carrington on Monday for family reasons.

It emerged over the weekend that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has requested to leave this summer amid concerns over the club’s lack of signings and ability to compete for major trophies as he approaches the final years of his illustrious career.
