Man tells girlfriend her male coworker 'just works harder' than her after she doesn't get promoted: 'A reality check'

A man thinks his girlfriend didn’t deserve a promotion she was passed over for.

He asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for advice. When his girlfriend lost a promotion to a male coworker, he told her it was because she doesn’t work hard enough. Now she’s furious at him.

Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern escape in just one day:

“My gf complained recently about missing a promotion,” he wrote. “Some guy in her department got promoted instead. I don’t know the dude or anything about him. But she called it a boys club and is complaining that he got it for being a dude.”

The issue was that he and his girlfriend both work from home, so he was aware of her work habits. He was convinced she only spent two to two and a half hours working a day.

“At 10am she signs in for a few meetings. From 10:30-12 she does work,” he explained. “At 12 she goes to gym for 2 hours, then stops to eat lunch. She gets back at 3 and surfs social media for an hour or so before heading taking the dogs out at 4:30. She’s back at 5, then shuts her computer off.”

After she complained about the “patriarchy” for a week, he got fed up and told her the truth. He suggested that “maybe he just works harder than you.” She didn’t take it well.

“I told her she only works 2 hours a day, and maybe that’s enough to get by, but not enough to get ahead,” he said. “Holy crap did she blow up at me. I’m not gonna repeat it all here but she accused me of being a woman hater, being part of the problem and a lot more.”

The Redditor received a mixed response from the forum.

“Everybody just has to hear an ugly truth,” a user commented.

“You don’t truly know how much work the person who did get the promotion actually puts in, and some people take 2-2.5 hours to do what it takes others 8 to do,” another wrote.

“She needs a reality check,” a Redditor said.

“The misogyny here is that OP knows his girlfriends work habits, and nothing of this other male coworker’s, but believes he must be working harder than her, performing better than her,” someone added.
