Man Of Steel ‘Traumatised’ Mark Millar

‘Man Of Steel’ wasn’t really everyone’s cup of tea. That’s to say that some people found it loud, bland and were rather annoyed by the fact that its ending massively deviated from what we’ve come to expect of Superman.

But while most people were happy enough to insist that ‘Man Of Steel’ was average and then just move on with their lives, comic-book writer Mark Millar has now come out and revealed that he was actually “traumatised” by Zack Snyder’s origin story for Kal-El.

Writing for Games Rader, Millar made sure to admit that he both adores everyone who was involved in ‘Man Of Steel’ and recognises that the death of Michael Shannon’s General Zod does work within the context of the movie.

However, he believes that by having Henry Cavill’s Superman kill Zod the film immediately loses the morals that comic-books once possessed in spades.

“I got the logic of that scene and it absolutely made sense within the context of the movie as the villain had taken down half of Metropolis and killed hundreds of thousands of people,” Miller writes.

“But even so. This was Superman. This was like seeing Sylvester The Cat finally getting his hands on Speedy Gonzales. Elmer Fudd blowing away Bugs Bunny. I loved Superman as a kid not because of hid edginess or his potential for a fatal solution, but because he could anything he wanted and still chose to be nice.”

Millar doesn’t just blame ‘Man Of Steel’ though. He also cites examples from X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, and each of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ films.

And while he appreciates the fact that these versions helped to legitimise the superhero genre, he now believes that they’ve strayed too far away from the moralistic values and characters’ pursuits for “peaceful solutions to insurmountable problems,” which made them so “super” in the first place.

In response Mark Millar has now written ‘Huck’, which is inspired by “feel-good movies” and revolves around a gas attendant with superhero powers that simply does one good every day.

I’m going to guess that ‘Huck’ doesn’t feature its protagonist snapping necks like twigs.
