Man finds dead body on roof of his SUV after driving to work, Texas cops say

A Texas man found a dead body sprawled across the roof of his SUV after arriving at work on Friday, Sept. 23, officials told news outlets.

The driver was heading to his job in Longview when he crashed into a pedestrian without realizing it, Robby Cox, Gregg County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, told KETK.

Longview, a small city in east Texas, is roughly 162 miles east of Fort Worth.

The collision happened close to an intersection on the city’s southeast side, Cox told KLTV.

Though the driver realized they ran into something, they didn’t know it was a person, the Longview News-Journal reported.

The victim bounced off the windshield and landed on the roof, where they remained until the driver later found them, Cox told the newspaper.

He was pronounced dead around 8 a.m., outlets reported.

An autopsy has been ordered.

McClatchy News reached out to the Longview Police Department for more information on Sept. 26 and was awaiting a response.
