Man dies after fire at parking garage near UT Arlington student apartments, officials say

A man who was burned in a parking garage fire near the University of Texas at Arlington last Friday died from his injuries.

The Arlington Fire Department did not identify the man, but said “the individual involved in this incident has passed away,” and that the fire “appears to be accidental in nature but remains under investigation.”

No further details were provided and records regarding the deceased were not available through the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday morning. KDFW-TV identified the man as 32-year-old Marcus Jackson, who was a local tow truck driver.

The blaze broke out around 4:15 a.m. in a parking garage near an apartment complex marketed toward UT Arlington students, at 848 W. Mitchell St.

Multiple vehicles were damaged or destroyed in the fire. Multiple explosions, from little pops to loud bangs, sounded from the garage for several minutes as the fire appeared to spread across parking spaces on the fourth floor of the garage.
