Man City 5-0 FC Copenhagen LIVE! Alvarez goal - Champions League match stream, latest score and updates today

Erling Haaland took his goal tally to an incredible 19 in all competitions this season with another double in Manchester City’s 5-0 demolition of FC Copenhagen in Champions League Group G on Wednesday.

Haaland wasted no time in getting City going with yet another strike in his remarkable campaign, sweeping home an early opener, before putting the game beyond the Danish side inside 32 minutes.

City kept coming and added a third six minutes before the break as David Khocholava put through his own net, with Haaland lurking just behind in the hunt for his second treble in four days.

There was to be no hat-trick for Haaland as he was withdrawn at halftime, but the goals kept coming as Riyad Mahrez slotted home a penalty before Julian Alvarez finished things off with a late fifth.

The most comfortable of victories ensured City have taken a maximum nine points in the group and need two more to be sure of a spot in knockout stages. Copenhagen are bottom on one point form three games

Haaland overtakes Champions League royalty in five-star Man City win

21:59 , Jonathan Gorrie

Erling Haaland overtook Rivaldo and Luis Suarez on 28 goals in just 22 Champions League games as Manchester City ran out comfortable winners over FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

The Norway international struck a first-half brace as the superlatives around him continue to run dry. While Haaland’s first, a powerful finish from inside the box to sweep Joao Cancelo’s driven cross home, came after only six minutes, even that would have felt like a lifetime for the away side.

Pep Guardiola deployed what was effectively a front five in possession as Julian Alvarez, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish swarming around Haaland, who missed two good chances as City threatened to run riot.

Guardiola: Man City will not take Copenhagen lightly

18:01 , Jonathan Gorrie

“It is not easy to get the result against Sevilla. Sevilla struggled to break them,” the City boss said in his pre-match press conference.

“I know the quality they have. They don’t just play long balls up to the striker, they have the ability to play, and the courage to play. They have many things. I am surprised how many things they do so well.

“My expectations are more humble than the media who expect us to win. I am not this type of manager - never, ever. I have a lot of respect - they won the league last season.

“Sometimes the next season you can struggle a little but it happens in all leagues around the world. But in one game, anything can happen. I don’t watch the table, I watch the team.

“My backroom staff help me a lot. This is my job. And the players will know the team we will face. Champions League, I have too much respect.”

Guardiola reveals ‘most important’ factor behind Haaland’s form

17:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

Pep Guardiola has hailed the role of Manchester City’s medical staff in Erling Haaland’s flying start to life in England.

The striker already has 14 goals to his name after a £51million summer move from Borussia Dortmund, with Bournemouth the only side to prevent him from scoring in either the Premier League or Champions League so far this season.

Haaland has started every match too, despite his previous injury problems in Germany and Guardiola insisting earlier in the campaign that he would have to rest the 22-year-old at various points.

Ten Hag says ‘thank you’ to Man City for thrashing Man United in derby

17:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag thanked Pep Guardiola and Manchester City for the reality check dished out in Sunday’s derby demolition.

The Old Trafford giants are in the midst of their latest post-Sir Alex Ferguson rebuild after a wretched campaign that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked and interim replacement Ralf Rangnick flounder.

United’s poor season means they are currently preparing for Europa League action rather than Champions League football, with the side jetting off to Cyprus to face Omonia Nicosia reeling from a humiliating 6-3 derby defeat.

Guardiola sends ominous message to title hopefuls after Man City win

17:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

Pep Guardiola insisted his Manchester City side could still improve in an ominous message to the rest of the Premier League.

The champions humiliated rivals Manchester United inside the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with the 6-3 scoreline flattering the visitors.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scored hat-tricks in what proved to be a straightforward win for City, even despite a number of injury problems.

John Stones and Rodri missed out, while Kyle Walker was forced off and Ruben Dias stayed on the bench, depriving Guardiola of some of his most important players.

Man City team news: A number of injury worries

17:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

Kyle Walker looks set to miss out tonight. The England right-back was forced off with a knock during Sunday’s derby thrashing of Manchester United and was not involved in a training session open to media on Tuesday.

Midfielder Rodri, who missed the weekend game with a calf problem, did participate but John Stones (hamstring) and Kalvin Phillips (shoulder) were again absent.
