At least 29 Niger soldiers were killed in an attack by armed insurgents near the country's border with Mali, the West African nation's defence ministry said in statement late on Monday. "The provisional toll of the attack is as follows, 29 soldiers fell in battle and two were wounded," the statement, read on Niger national television, said, adding that several dozen assailants were killed. The defence ministry did not say which group was responsible.
