Malala partners with Apple to produce content

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai announced on Monday that she'll be teaming up with Apple to bring a wide range of dramas, children's series, animation and documentaries to its streaming platform.

Her new production company Extracurricular joins a growing line-up on Apple TV+ including shows from Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and Will Smith.

"I hope that through my shows, through the content that I produce, we can bring connectivity among people. We build that connectedness that, whatever background you are from, there's so much that we have in common that we should celebrate."

Malala became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate at age 17 for campaigning in Pakistan against the Taliban’s attempt to deny women education.

In 2012, she survived an assassination attempt after being shot in the head by a Taliban gunman.

On the 110th anniversary of International Women's Day, Malala says she’ll continue her fight for girls’ education.

"I believe in storytelling because it has been part of my life, it was my story that inspired so many people around the world to realize that not all girls have access to education. We hear about wars and conflicts and we see this news on a TV, but we don't often see what is happening to an individual, to a young girl who just wants to go to school."

Apple produced a documentary about her in 2015 and in 2018 partnered with her Malala Fund to promote secondary education for girls across the globe.

In her newest venture with the tech giant, Malala told Reuters she hopes to inspire young people with new voices on the platform.
