The Martinique administration said late on Monday that there would be a curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. local time until Oct. 21, with people only allowed to travel or be outdoors for work or health reasons, such as going to hospital. In Missouri, Halloween night signs were required in the yards of sex offenders. Until now
Many states have laws designed to keep children away from convicted sexual offenders on Halloween night, such as curfews for those on offender registries and requirements to keep their porch lights off. A 2008 law required registered offenders in Missouri to post signs on Oct. 31 that read “No candy or treats at this residence.” U.S. District Judge John Ross ruled this month that the provision violated the First Amendment by forcing “compelled speech," depriving those on the registry "of their freedom to speak in their own words or to not speak at all.”

A memorial cross made by crewmates of the famed Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton upon his death during an expedition in 1922 has gone on public display in Scotland, over a century after it was first erected on the island of South Georgia.Video from the Dundee Heritage Trust shows the cross being unveiled at Discovery Point Dundee, in a service attended by the Irish-born explorer’s granddaughter Alexandra Shackleton. After Shackleton died on January 5, 1922, during his fourth voyage to Antarctica, members of the expedition crew made the cross out of wood salvaged from old whaling station buildings, according to the Dundee Heritage Trust. The cross stood in South Georgia until 2018, the trust said, before the decision was made to replace it with a replica.
