Madame Web has set an unwanted record after landing a very low Rotten Tomatoes score.

The new Sony Marvel movie sees Dakota Johnson play the titular Cassandra Webb, who uses her ability to see into the future to team up with three women and stop villain Ezekiel Sims.

After being slated across the board by critics, the movie has now landed on Rotten Tomatoes' list of worst superhero movies of all time.

Its placing at 17 now makes it the worst-rated Sony Marvel project, with its 13% rating putting it higher on the list than the previous title holder Morbius, which stands at 15%.

However, Madame Web sits behind titles such as the infamous 2015 version of Fantastic Four and 2004's Catwoman.

In one review, Rolling Stone opined that it was "the Cats: The Movie of superhero movies", suggesting that "not a single decision seems of sound mind".

The Hollywood Reporter added in their own review: "It is an airless and stilted endeavor driven by a mechanical screenplay. Its lack of imagination would be astounding if it wasn't so expected."

Meanwhile, star Johnson recently told Digital Spy that she would be up for reprising her role in a potential Madame Web sequel, saying: "There is so much I would like to look at. If they want me to come back, then I will."

Director SJ Clarkson added of a potential follow-up: "If I had clairvoyance I would tell you [what she'd want to explore in a sequel]. I've not long finished the film, so I'm going to put it out there in the world and see what happens."

Madame Web is out now in cinemas.
