New 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Trailer Blows Up Everything in Sight

We’d warn you to buckle up before watching the new Mad Max: Fury Road international trailer, but considering that pretty much every car, truck, and skull-skinned vehicle featured in this new clip winds up exploding, it’s probably wasted advice.

This brand-new preview — which you can watch above — ups the ante even further for George Miller’s long-awaited return to the dystopian franchise he launched in 1979. It looks like a post-apocalyptic Fast and the Furious romp set in hell, overrun by crazed goth kids who, seemingly inspired by the DIY tools of the Lost Boys in Hook, take nihilism to its ultimate bloody conclusion.

Unlike the film’s first trailer, which nods at the political elements of the film — mainly, that the world is run on oil and humans are desperate for water — this shorter preview leans heavy on the carnage, with bigger bangs and a new look inside a massive fire tornado that would send Dorothy to the underworld, not Oz. And, as an added bonus, the bold, giant-sized Japanese text that appears on the trailer makes it look like the craziest foreign game-show ever.

Tom Hardy plays Max, a rebel of few words but many muscles, who is mourning the death of his wife and child whilst trying to escape a very precarious situation himself. Charlize Theron, meanwhile, is Furiosa (awesome name), who traverses the desert to get back to her childhood home. The trailer also offers a good look at “The Wives,” a crew that includes Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough (Magic Mike), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers 3), Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton.

The film, which will either delight or horrify you (or both!), hits theaters on May 15.
