WASHINGTON (AP) — With rare bipartisan momentum, the House pushed ahead Friday on a foreign aid package of $95 billion for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and humanitarian support as a coalition of lawmakers helped it clear a procedural hurdle to reach final votes this weekend. Friday’s vote produced a seldom-seen outcome in the typically hyper-partisan House, with Democrats helping Republican Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan advance 316-94. Final House approval could come this weekend, when the package woul

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street’s latest losing week looks to be coming to a relatively quiet close on Friday. U.S. stocks are drifting in mixed trading after oil prices briefly surged overnight on worries about fighting in the Middle East. The S&P 500 was 0.2% lower in morning trading and on track for its third straight losing week. That would be its longest such streak since September, before it broke out into a record-setting romp. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 196 points, or 0.5%, as o
Israel's apparent strike on Iran after days of prevarication was small and appeared calibrated to dial back risks of a major war, even if the sheer fact it happened at all shattered a taboo of direct attacks that Tehran broke days earlier. Netanyahu's war cabinet had initially approved plans for a strike on Monday night inside Iranian territory to respond forcefully to last Saturday's missile and drones from Iran, but held back at the last-minute, three sources with knowledge of the situation said. By then, the sources said, the three voting members of the war cabinet had already ruled out the most drastic response - a strike on strategic sites including Iran's nuclear facilities whose destruction would almost certainly provoke a wider regional conflict.

Oil prices (BZ=F, CL=F) have been moving back and forth since Iran's attack on Israel last weekend, with Israel ultimately retaliating Thursday night and raising more concerns of further escalation. With tensions rising in the Middle East and the potential for conflict to spread, concerns over the impacts on global oil production have also been raised. Prosper Trading Academy CEO Scott Bauer joins The Morning Brief to discuss oil prices, the state of shipping in the Middle East, and impacts on consumers and investors alike. Bauer outlines what risks are at stake and what to keep in mind during these tense times: "The real risk of this is that the Strait of Hormuz closes down or consolidates at a point where we can't get crude through there because 20% of the world's supply passes through there, so that is the big risk. It's not a risk of Iran is not going to supply anything or oil is not going to still be pumped — it's the delivery. So that's number one. Number two, where do we go from here? I know people are pegging $100 [per barrel], I think that's just an easy number... and what we have to keep in mind is when the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began, we saw oil prices spike all the way to $125, I don't see that happening." Shares in SoftwareOne rose on Friday after a boardroom shake-up made the prospect of a bid for the Swiss IT service provider more likely, investors and analysts said. On Thursday, founding shareholders Daniel von Stockar, Rene Gilli and B. Curti Holding, who hold 29% of SoftwareOne stock, won a vote to oust most of the existing board. The three had laid the ground for a sale of SoftwareOne to U.S. investor Bain Capital last year before dropping it due to the board's resistance to the deal.
