Last year was awful for the mortgage industry. Rising interest rates crushed mortgage originators, and mortgage real estate investment trusts (REITs) suffered from mortgage-backed security (MBS) underperformance. Many of these REITs were forced to cut their dividends, and every one reported declines in book value per share.
India is inspecting facilities of spice makers MDH and Everest for compliance with quality standards after sales of some of their products were halted in Hong Kong and Singapore for allegedly containing high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide. India's spices export regulator said it had sought data on MDH and Everest exports from relevant authorities in both countries and was working with the companies to find the "root cause" of the issue and propose corrective measures if needed. MDH and Everest did not immediately respond to queries about the Spices Board's statement.

Wintershall Dea said on Wednesday that the current management board will step down after the transfer of its non-Russian oil and gas assets to Britain's Harbour Energy. CEO Mario Mehren, COO Dawn Summers and CFO Paul Smith will remain members of the management board until the transaction closes and will then resign from their mandates, it said. Stefan Schnell, currently senior vice president of Group Reporting & Performance Management at BASF, will be proposed as chairperson (CEO) of Wintershall Dea as of the closing of the transaction, expected in the fourth quarter.

Skies over the Paris region will be closed for six hours as part of the massive security operation for the July 26 opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the Paris airports operator said Wednesday. Augustin de Romanet, chairman of Aéroports de Paris, said airlines are being warned in advance about the closure and told they will have to fly around the restricted airspace. “For six hours, there won't be any aircraft over the Paris region," he said on France Info radio.

U.S. natural gas futures slipped about 5% on Wednesday on an outlook for reduced heating demand next week and on the eve of a closely watched weekly federal storage report. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will release its weekly storage report at 10:30 a.m. ET (1530 GMT), Thursday. LSEG forecasts gas demand in the Lower 48 states, including exports, to fall to 92.7 bcfd next week from 98.0 bcfd this week.

Ferrari has signed a multi-year partnership with HP, making the world's second-largest PC vendor the new so-called title sponsor of Ferrari's motor racing team, including for Formula One, the two companies said on Wednesday.
