‘I’m sad to see my favorite store go’: JoCo home goods shop closing. Look for sales

Prairie Village home goods store Golden & Pine is closing by the end of this month, a store manager told The Star Thursday.

Golden & Pine’s final day has not been “set in stone,” said manager Carly Henderson, but owner Stephanie Agne is eyeing the last few days of September.

The shop, which advertises its products as ethically sourced, has been open for eight years — the last five of those spent at its 19 On The Mall location in The Shops of Prairie Village. (Golden & Pine occupied a space in Brookside before that.)

The store carries a selection of furniture, decor and handmade items that are “light, bright, nature-inspired and modern,” according to the store’s website.

Agne opened the shop after being troubled by the design community’s promotion of products that exploit workers, the website says.

Henderson has been with Golden & Pine for three years and said their store attracted a steady group of regular shoppers.

“I loved it. It was everything,” she said. “I met really good people.”

The store announced its closure on Instagram Wednesday evening, where Agne shared that the “hard parts of running a small business have begun to outweigh the lovely parts.” Agne said she would continue on as an interior designer and has been working “behind the scenes” on the transition.

The post amassed over 200 goodbyes and well wishes from customers.

“I’m sad to see my favorite store go but very happy for you and your next adventure!! Best of luck, Stephanie,” one user wrote.

“Loved your store and everything you do! Good luck with your next adventure,” wrote another.

Henderson told The Star Thursday that she’s been touched by the community’s response.

“I had to stop reading the Instagram because it was making me sad, but that is the proof in the pudding,” she said. “We’ll miss them as much as they miss us.”

Golden & Pine will be open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Everything in the store will be 40% off until it closes.

Shoppers should check back with the store’s social media pages for updates on its closing date.
