Lowe's discount: Nurses, firefighters, police and doctors save 10% ahead of First Responders Day

Lowe's is giving first responders a 10% discount to thank them for their service.

Starting Friday and through Sunday, eligible first responders can save on select items at Lowe’s stores nationwide and at Lowes.com, the home improvement chain said.

Firefighters, emergency medical technicians/paramedics, police officers, 911 dispatchers, nurses and physicians can sign up for the coupon through Sunday at Lowes.com/firstresponders. At the site, fill out a short form to verify eligibility with ID.me, a verification service.

The discount comes ahead of National First Responders Day, which is Oct. 28. Some states also honor first responders on other days, including Sept. 11.

“We’ve always been huge supporters of our first responders,” Lowe’s chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said in an interview with USA TODAY. “As we think about the global health crisis and all of the natural disasters, we just felt it was appropriate for us as a large company to just show a gesture of goodwill and gratitude."

After first responders successfully register, they will get an email from Lowe's with the discount that can be used in-store, online or the retailer's app on a single purchase of full-price merchandise. There's a limit of one coupon per household and some exclusions apply.

Lowe’s also will honor the first 75 first responders who redeem the discount at each store with an appreciation coin.
