Love Is Blind's Irina Solomonova and Micah Lussier have responded to claims they are "mean girls" in the new series of the Netflix reality show.

After season four of Love Is Blind dropped last week (24th March) Irina and Micah were called out on social media by viewers for their apparent mean girl behaviour towards the other women in the experiment.

During the early episodes in the pods, where cast members are forming romantic connections, Micah and Irina appeared to bond quickly in their living quarters. After watching fellow contestant Amber return from getting dumped by Paul (the guy Micah liked) the two were seen eavesdropping and laughing whilst Amber cried to Chelsea.

Later, when Irina is competing for the affections of Zack, with fellow contestant Bliss, she tells Zack Bliss has been mistreating her, when in fact both women appear not to be getting on with each other and Bliss even organises a sit down with Irina to ensure there is no animosity between them.

And during the couples trip to Mexico, the pair were seen giggling about Chelsea's relationship with Kwame, whom Micah was previously interested in.

Since the episodes aired many people have been tweeting about the two women's behaviour, with some calling them mean girls for the way they've acted.

Irina and Micah have since responded to the claims they were mean girls, when speaking to Entertainment Weekly before the episodes were released last week.

Though they had not yet watched the episodes, Micah defended their actions, calling them a "coping mechanism" during filming.

She said: "For us, it was really helpful to have a little sense of normalcy. Being able to laugh and make light and make jokes and, well, maybe sometimes the jokes didn't land or maybe it didn't look the best, but we needed that in that moment to feel like a normal person.

"Because you're a part of this experience that is so beyond words. To be able to make a little bit of light out of such a hard thing was really helpful."

Micah also added she and Irina were going to "grow up from our mistakes."

Irina said she's aware there are some bridges she will need to rebuild and did not intend to hurt anyone with her behaviour whilst appearing on Love Is Blind.

She told EW: "Me and Micah's coping mechanism was laughing about it. And I honestly will say on the record, 100 per cent, I did not intentionally ever want to hurt anyone. [Hearing] that I hurt people's feelings genuinely breaks my heart.

"I know there probably have to be some bridges that I'll have to mend and conversations I'll have to have, that I want to have. But I think, for me, in the experience I was kind of zoned out and in my own thing of how I'm feeling, and I didn't really realise how that could affect other people."

Irina echoed Micah's statement when she said the pair used laughter as a way to cope with the intensity of the show, "With Micah, we were laughing because, yes, it was very serious and it was very intense and it was very hard, so I don't want to brush it off and say that we weren't taking it seriously. It's just more our perspective, that's how we coped about it; we laughed and made the best out of it. We didn't intend to be mean or intentionally hurt anybody at all," she said.

Irina added she was "nervous" about the backlash they could face when the show debuted. Since the season aired the two women have restricted comments on their social media and Micah has shared an Instagram story asking for people to stop speaking with cruelty.

Here's hoping both are doing ok following the season's release.
