Lottery player moved to tears over $3 million SC win. ‘I cried like a baby’

A South Carolina lottery player won a prize so big, he was moved to tears.

“I cried like a baby,” the $3 million winner told the S.C. Education Lottery in a March 30 news release.

The seven-figure prize made the man emotional after a trip to the Quick Pantry convenience store in North Charleston. While there, officials said he tried his luck on a $3 ticket for the Mega Millions game.

It turns out, the ticket missed the larger jackpot prize in the March 17 drawing. But it beat 1-in-12.6 million odds to score the big win, according to the S.C. Education Lottery.

After the drawing, officials announced that someone matched enough numbers to get richer but hadn’t come forward. In South Carolina, winners have about six months to cash in, The State newspaper reported.

The $3 million winner, who wasn’t identified in the news release, said the experience left him with a “joyful feeling.”

“What am I going to do with that much money?” he asked. “Then I got to thinking, there’s a lot I can do with it.”

The man, who kept more than $2 million after taxes, told lottery officials he hopes to help his family first.

It’s not the first time a South Carolina lottery winner experienced a burst of emotion. Last year, a woman cried over her husband’s win, while another prize left a group of friends screaming, McClatchy News reported.
