Kelly Brook has defended altering an Instagram picture of herself.

The Loose Women panellist was criticised for retouching a photo with her boyfriend Jeremy Parisi at Royal Ascot, but she brushed off the negative comments on today's episode of the daytime TV show – comparing retouching to using filters.

"I just think because I've been in the industry for so many years, I'm always looking at pictures in a different way," she said.

"So I like creating beautiful images and lovely pictures, so even if I take a picture of my garden or I'm on holiday and I take a picture a beach, I always add a filter or something on it to bring out the sunset.

"When I look at myself, I think, 'Oh, I like myself but I can make myself look better'."

When Kelly's panellists suggested that retouching and using filters aren't really comparable, she disagreed.

"I don't think so," she said. "I'm on telly. People can see what I look like, so it's not like I'm drastically changing what I look like. I'm not on a diet, I'm not telling people to lose weight.

"I only wanted to change the lines to make my dress look nicer... I've spent two hours in hair and make-up, so nothing is real. How far do you go with that?"

Kelly previously received backlash from viewers for criticising mothers who take time off for their kids.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
