Locals Borgelin, Cremaschi may step in for depleted Inter Miami against Chicago Saturday

Inter Miami returns home to warm weather and DRV PNK Stadium Saturday night in hopes of a win over the Chicago Fire after back-to-back road losses in frigid conditions.

Miami opened the season with a pair of 2-0 victories over Montreal and Philadelphia, the two top teams in the Eastern Conference last season. They then lost 1-0 at New York City FC on an own goal, and last Saturday were beaten 2-0 at Toronto.

“This is an opportunity to get back to winning ways and the levels we want to be playing at,” said Inter Miami coach Phil Neville. “We have led the opposition in possession, but we need to create more chances and improve our quality in the final third.”

They will have to do it with a limited roster. Forwards Josef Martinez and Leo Campana are out. Martinez is on international duty with the Venezuelan national team, playing friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. Campana has yet to play this season after injuring a calf in the final week of preseason. He returned to practice Thursday but is not expected to be ready for the game.

Midfielder Gregore, the team captain, is out for six months after foot surgery.

Midfielder Robert Taylor, who scored a spectacular goal against Philadelphia, is also gone, playing for the Finnish national team and Edison Azcona is with the Dominican Republic team.

Look for Fort Lauderdale native Shanyder Borgelin and 18-year-old Key Biscayne resident Benjamin Cremaschi to get more minutes and help the attack, which will likely be led by Rodolfo Pizarro, Nico Stefanelli, Ariel Lassiter and Bryce Duke.

“Robert Taylor and Gregore are out, so it is an opportunity for me to possibly play,” Cremaschi said. “I’ll be ready. I have been learning a lot from (Jean) Mota and Victor (Ulloa).”

Chicago remains winless through three games after giving up two late goals last weekend in a 3-3 tie with Cincinnati. Chicago led 3-1 but wound up settling for the tie. Among the Fire players to watch are captain Rafael Czichos, Kacper Przybylko and Chris Mueller.
