"I don't want to get to a point where life is boring because I'm taking myself so seriously," LL Cool J tells PEOPLE of starring in Coors Light's 2024 Super Bowl commercial
LL Cool J is putting on his conductor's hat to drive the Coors Light Chill Train for the beer brand's Super Bowl commercial. PEOPLE got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at filming for the big game spot (above).
"I don't get to dress up in a conductor's outfit that much. You know what I mean?" he told PEOPLE on set. "So I look forward to putting on my conductor's outfit and having fun with that funny shaped hat and all that, and it'll be fun. I love it. I think it's great."
In the commercial, the rapper saves a young couple from an awkward moment during a family football game watch. The daughter introduces her boyfriend to her dad and tensions build when the boyfriend realizes he is in the opposing team's jersey.
The woman suggests they have a Coors Light, and then LL Cool J drives the train from a far away place — through a beach, a wedding, a suburb, and even a movie set featuring country singer Lainey Wilson — and straight into the family's home. He smiles and says, "Oh shoot! I forgot to play the song" and then The O'Jays "Love Train" plays.
It's that song that made filming the commercial extra special for LL Cool J.
"The theme song is amazing. It reminds me of being a little boy — seven, eight years old — watching my mother dance around with her vacuum cleaner," he says. "That really for me is like a little touching vibe."
The father of four plans to spend the Super Bowl with friends, family, and lots of food. "Our watch parties are usually a lot of wings, a lot of pizza. I want sauce, I want hot wings, I want pizza. I want just sliders and burgers. And then it's just a good time," he says.
Coors Light's 30-second commercial will air during the first half of the Super Bowl when the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers face off. Super Bowl LVIII is on CBS on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
