One of the Premier League’s fiercest rivalries is renewed today as Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield.

For the first time in years, England’s two most successful clubs go head-to-head as genuine title contenders, with defending champions Liverpool looking to reclaim top spot.

That’s because United moved to the summit with a 1-0 win over Burnley in midweek courtesy of Paul Pogba’s strike, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have a three-point cushion ahead of this meeting.

Jurgen Klopp’s side do have a better goal difference, so victory will see them leapfrog United, but more than that, the victor will make a major statement as the season nears its halfway stage.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Liverpool vs Manchester United is scheduled for a 4:30pm kick-off on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

The game will be played behind closed doors at Anfield because of current coronavirus restrictions.

How to watch Liverpool vs Man United

TV channel: The match will be televised on Sky Sports.

Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch the match online via the website or Sky Go app.

Team news

Liverpool will be without midfielder Naby Keita, who has been sidelined since mid-December because of a muscle problem.

“Naby is not involved,” Jurgen klopp said. "In the moment we have alternatives in midfield so we really try to give him all the time he needs to get 100 per cent fit so he's not in contention for Sunday."

However, the German could have Joel Matip available, reporting he is “close” to a return and would be assessed in training late this week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meanwhile, will make late calls on Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial, the latter pair having picked up knocks against Burnley and the former having missed out altogether.

“I’ll give everyone tomorrow as well to prove their fitness," the Norwegian said. “To get a chance to go to that game. There are a couple of knocks that we got at Burnley that I’m not sure about.”

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Man United

Liverpool have made a habit of winning these crunch matches when their status as title favourites has been up for discussion, such as when beating high-flying Tottenham earlier this season.

They have also had the benefit of a full week’s rest and will be tough to beat at Anfield here.
