Little Mix: Jesy Nelson shows support for former bandmates after historic Brits win

Jesy Nelson has shown her support for her former Little Mix bandmates following their historic win at the Brit Awards.

The singer posted a message on Instagram after the trio became the first ever female band to win best group at the Brit Awards on Tuesday night.

Nelson gave her first interview after leaving the band to Cosmopolitan earlier this month but said she did not want to talk about her relationship with the Little Mix girls - Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall - leaving some fans concerned about their friendship.

But on stage at the Brits, the trio thanked Nelson in their acceptance speech and she later showed her support, sharing a photo of the stars holding their award.

She captioned the image with heart and applause emojis.

Nelson left Little Mix "with a heavy heart" in December, saying being part of such a high-profile girl group had taken its toll on her mental health, after previously revealing in a 2019 documentary that she had attempted to take her own life due to abuse on social media.

Edwards, Pinnock and Thirlwall wished her well following her announcement and said they were supportive of her decision.

In her Cosmopolitan interview, Nelson said she could no longer cope with being compared to her bandmates and that she reached "breaking point" after returning from lockdown to shoot a music video.

Little Mix formed on The X Factor in 2011 and went on to become the first group to win the show.

In the 10 years since, they have become one of the UK's most successful girl bands, selling millions of records around the world.

Their historic win on Tuesday was their third Brit in total, having won best single in 2017 for Shout Out To My Ex and best video in 2019 for Woman Like Me, featuring Nicki Minaj.

Accepting the award on stage, Pinnock said: "It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry.

"We have seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.

"We are proud of how we have stuck together, stood our ground and surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever."

Little Mix were among the many female winners at the awards, with Dua Lipa picking up two trophies, Taylor Swift honoured with the global icon prize, and Arlo Parks named best breakthrough act.

Their win came after both Pinnock and Edwards announced their pregnancies earlier this month, with the pair showing their baby bumps in public for the first time on the Brits red carpet.
