A camouflaged 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was spotted testing on the Nürburgring on Thursday emitting a very ICE-like sound as it passed by spy photographers.

The Ioniq 5 N is Hyundai's first performance-oriented EV, so it's not surprising to see a test mule lapping the Green Hell during the track's industry test pool sessions. What is odd, though, are the gas-powered noises it seems to be making as it accelerates out of corners.

This isn't the first time we've heard an Ioniq 5 N prototype simulating engine sounds as it drove. Road & Track went to Sweden earlier this month for an early first test of the car, where engineers were testing a car with fake engine noises and even fake gear shift sounds.

The Ioniq 5 N looks otherwise quick and composed as it lapped the wet track, its tires shouting as engineers pushed through corners. Thanks to our prototype test we have a rough idea of how the car will drive, though we have yet to get our hands on the final product. Testing on the 'Ring should only make things better, though we'll have to wait till we get the production-ready car to fully judge those simulated sounds.
