- "The It List" is Yahoo's weekly look at the best in pop culture. With the coronavirus pandemic in mind, here are our picks for the week of January 4, 2021.

While the new year hopefully brings less real-life drama, on the small screen, ABC is dramatically kicking it off in high gear with a new season of "The Bachelor." Season 25 marks a significant first with Matt James, the first black Bachelor. But despite the progressive casting, a teaser trailer shows that the show's traditional abundance of waterworks is in no short supply, and neither are the routine cutting cat fights.

- Well, I've heard two different terms going around. I've heard sugar baby and escort.

- She may be having a transactional relationship with wealthy men.

- Oh my God! Yes!

- For drama of a much different variety, turn to "Pieces of a Woman." The film depicts a couple, played by Vanessa Kirby and Shia Labeouf, who suffer a terrible tragedy with the loss of their child during a home birth. This marks Labeouf's first film release since being sued in December by ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs for sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. "Pieces of a Woman" was shot at the end of 2019 and also stars Ellen Burstyn.

- Why are you trying to disappear my kid?

- Because we don't have a kid.

- [SCREAMS]

- You have to face this.

- I am facing this. I am facing it!

- Hospitals have always made good subject matter for TV. But in a year where medical workers fought in the front lines against the coronavirus, NBC'S "Nurses" is worth a look. The show first aired in Canada in early 2020 and was recently picked up for broadcast in the US. And while American audiences might not be familiar with the cast, the drama hits close to home.

- Phyllis Bruner?

- Yeah, she needs to call her sister in Sydney.

- That's not going to happen. She died.

- What?

- Yeah, looks like she went into V-fib shortly after you clocked out.

- Come back next week to check out Yahoo's "It List."
