After a somewhat divisive season finale to its sixth series, Line of Duty fans are asking whether the show will return for a seventh.

The Daily Star previously reported that the show would return for a seventh season, citing an 'inside source' that it will take a while before it comes back.

But showrunner Jed Mercurio told BBC Breakfast last year that there were "no plans" in the works for a seventh season but didn't rule it out either.

Now, Line of Duty star Vicky McClure, who plays Kate Fleming, has revealed what she knows about the show's seventh season.

Speaking to The Guardian in an interview, McClure was asked the question that everyone wants to know the answer to: will there be a seventh series of Line of Duty?

She said: "I don't know! I don't know, there's no word of it. I think we've all been really honest and said should that happen, we're all game."

She added that she would 100% be part of a new version of the show with Mercurio, and her co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar if they wanted to do it too.

"I'll just stick with the guys. I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all."

The show was thought to have ended after season six but talk about new episodes began almost as soon as the finale aired.

While McClure waits to hear about Line of Duty, assuming she really doesn't already know, she's starring in new ITV drama Trigger Point, which will air its first episode on Sunday, January 23.

The show will follow McClure as Lana Washington, an experienced bomb disposal operative teaming up with Adrian Lester's Joel Nutkins.

Though there are many comparisons between the two shows and McClure's characters in both, she previously told Digital Spy: "I look at Lana and Kate and I don't see them together as the same people at all."
