CVC bids for Germany's CompuGroup Medical at 51% premium
CompuGroup said CVC had offered 22 euros ($23.24) per share, which corresponds to a 51% premium to CompuGroup's average share price over the past three months. The deal, which is subject to regulatory clearances, is worth 1.14 billion euros ($1.20 billion) based on CompuGroup's 51.7 million shares outstanding, Reuters' calculations showed. The deal's minimum acceptance threshold is set at 17% and the German company's supervisory board expects to recommend the shareholders to approve the offer after a review.

China's top electric vehicle maker BYD gained market share as the world's largest auto market recorded its fastest-growing month in 2024, setting BYD up to exceed its global annual sales goal and overtake Ford and Honda. Aided by robust sales in China, BYD is on course to top its annual sales target of 4 million vehicles, which would put it ahead of Japan's Honda and Detroit-based Ford for 2024.

Euro zone investor morale falls in December to lowest in more than a year
Investor morale in the euro zone fell in December to its lowest in more than a year, a survey showed on Monday, with Germany remaining a drag on the bloc as snap elections in February have failed to inspire confidence. The Sentix index for the euro zone fell to -17.5 in December from -12.8 in November, the lowest level since November 2023 and a bigger decline than the -13.5 forecast by analysts polled by Reuters.

With tensions in the South China Sea showing no signs of abating, countries with claims in the disputed waterway are seeking whatever means they can to stay ahead of the competition, including conducting joint exercises and forming deeper alliances.
