Lily Gladstone will star in the upcoming remake of 1993's romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet.

The Killers of the Flower Moon star will feature opposite SNL comedian Bowen Yang, as well as Star Wars' Kelly Marie Tran, Minari's Youn Yuh-jung and Twin Peaks' Joan Chen, in a present-day reimagining of Ang Lee's critically acclaimed movie.

Directed by Andrew Ahn — from a script by Ahn and The Wedding Banquet's original co-screenwriter James Schamus — this new version doubles down on the queer representation, including a female couple alongside the central gay romance.

The film, which begins shooting in May in Vancouver, kicks off with Min asking his boyfriend Chris to marry him, only for Chris to reject his proposal.

Min then convinces his best friend Angela to get married instead, offering to pay for her partner Liz's IVF treatments in exchange for his green card.

Similarly to the original movie, things begin to unravel when Min's grandmother makes a surprise trip from Seoul to throw the happy couple a Korean wedding banquet.

The remake is being made with Lee's blessing, as he shared a sweet message for Ahn and the cast.

"It warms my heart to see how my film from so many years ago has inspired a new generation to reimagine a new and different version," Lee said in a statement (via Variety). "I look forward to seeing what Andrew Ahn and his wonderful cast create."

The film is produced by Bleecker Street and Shivhans Pictures and is expected to roll into cinemas next year.

"I'm delighted to re-team with my longtime friend and colleague, James Schamus, on this inspired reimagining of a classic rom-com for the modern era," Andrew Karpen, founder and CEO of Bleecker Street, said.

"Andrew Ahn is a force to be reckoned with and I'm very excited to see the new heights that he and James will take this story to."

Andrew Ahn's remake of The Wedding Banquet is expected to release in cinemas in 2025.
