Lexington man checks email from bed to find he won $225K playing Kentucky Lottery game

A Lexington man recently won a whopping $225,000 prize after purchasing three sets of numbers on the Cash Ball 225 game, according to a Monday press release from Kentucky Lottery.

He bought the numbers to win the game’s top prize using the Kentucky Lottery app.

The man, who the lottery said wants to stay anonymous, found out about his winnings after checking his email before getting out of bed one morning.

“I wear contacts and was squinting trying to see it,” he told the lottery. “I had to take a screenshot and zoom in so I could read it.”

The man said he was “blown away” and “got a little shaky” when he found out about his prize, the lottery noted.

According to the lottery website, the odds of winning the game’s top prize are 1 in 1.309 million.

He collected his prize the next day, which totaled $160,875 after taxes. He said he wants to use the money to help his daughter through college.

Winning the top prize was “surreal,” he said.

“You think you might win but just not today, but for me, it was today,” he told Kentucky Lottery.
