Fierce rivals Leeds and Manchester United renew hostilities today following the European Super League farce that has dominated the football news agenda.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side struck late to secure a 1-1 draw with Liverpool less than 24 hours after the controversial plans had been announced on Monday night, with protesting fans and Leeds players making their feelings on the proposal quite clear.

Every member of the Premier League’s so-called ‘Big Six’ have now quickly withdrawn from the Super League after a huge backlash, but the visitors will certainly find no swift forgiveness at Elland Road this weekend.

Mid-table Leeds’ point against Liverpool saw them remain level with Arsenal in ninth as they push for a top-half finish in their first top-flight season for 16 years.

In-form United, meanwhile, sparked the faintest of hopes for a late twist to a one-sided title race after moving within eight points of Manchester City with six matches left to play thanks to a fifth league win in a row against Burnley last weekend, but that gap is now back to 11 after the leaders won at Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Leeds vs Man Utd team news

Leeds will be without Rodrigo again and Raphinha remains a big doubt. Club-record signing Rodrigo has missed the last two matches due to his latest muscle strain, while Raphinha has not yet been able to train since sustaining a thigh injury in the recent win at Man City.

Captain Liam Cooper sits out the second match of his three-game ban following his dismissal at the Etihad Stadium.

Leeds provisional squad: Meslier, Casilla, Alioski, Llorente, Koch, Struijk, Ayling, Berardi, Phillips, Dallas, Shackleton, Klich, Raphinha, Roberts, Harrison, Hernandez, Poveda, Costa, Bamford, Gelhardt.

Marcus Rashford is a doubt for the Red Devils. The 23-year-old played started against Burnley last weekend but has not trained with the squad this week due to an ongoing foot issue, although manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes he can return to training on Saturday.

Eric Bailly is back in contention after recovering from coronavirus, while Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain sidelined with knee issues.

Manchester United provisional squad: Henderson, De Gea, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Williams, Lindelof, Maguire, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Telles, McTominay, Fred, Matic, Van De Beek, Mata, Pogba, Mejbri, Fernandes, James, Diallo, Elanga, Greenwood, Rashford, Cavani

Leeds vs Man Utd prediction

It will be interesting to see if the Super League saga has affected Manchester United’s players, with additional drama at Old Trafford including the confirmation of Ed Woodward’s exit later this year.

Though they frequently seem to battle back from behind, to say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are away day experts would be something of an understatement - they are now unbeaten on the road in league action in 23 matches and will become only the third club ever to remain undefeated away from home across a full top-flight campaign if they avoid losing against Leeds, Aston Villa and Wolves.

Leeds might be inconsistent, but will be very eager to boost their claims for a top-half finish and pile more misery on their hated rivals here.

Bielsa’s team have taken the fight to the big boys on numerous occasions this season and their last-gasp win at City with 10 men showed they are never to be taken lightly, though they were punished for their attacking style at Old Trafford with a hectic 6-2 defeat before Christmas that more resembled a basketball game.

We’re backing another lively affair shaded by the visitors on their first trip to Elland Road since 2011.
