Lebanese Man Demands Access to Over $40,000 in Frozen Deposits, Supporters Say

A man held up a bank in Tyre, Lebanon, on October 4, in an attempt to obtain some $44,000 in frozen deposits, his supporters said.

The Lebanon Depositors Association said Ali Hassan Hodroj was armed with a pistol and holding hostages inside a branch of Byblos Bank in Tyre.

Local media reported that all transactions inside the bank had stopped, and that a negotiation process was taking place between the depositor and management.

Footage from the scene was posted by the Lebanon Depositors Association. The incident was one of three reported on Tuesday, amid a spate of holdups in the country involving frustrated depositors. Credit: Lebanese Depositors Association via Storyful
