Lava From La Palma Volcano Causes New Evacuations

A new vent emerged on La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano on Friday, October 15, releasing gas and other material, the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute reported, as lava flows continued to destroy buildings on the island.

A cloud with ash from the ongoing eruption reduced visibility on Saturday, El Pais reported. The recent activity also cast a sulfurous odor over parts of the island. Flights at La Palma’s airport were cancelled due to conditions.
