Lamborghini had its most successful year ever in 2021. The Sant'Agata carmaker posted a profit of $408 million last year, delivering 8405 cars. Sales numbers through May 2022 indicate there's no slowing down for Lamborghini.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann gave a presentation to journalists on Wednesday ahead of the Huracán Tecnica launch in Valencia, Spain, detailing financials for Q1 2022 released last month, along with updated sales numbers through May. Lamborghini sold a total of 4197 cars in the first five months of 2022, with Winkelmann saying deliveries have surpassed the 5000-car mark in June (exact numbers for June were not available at the time of writing).

For some context, Lamborghini sold 5750 cars in all of 2018. The year before that, it sold just above 1000 cars. It's safe to say the brand is having an extremely good year.

These May numbers aren't exactly a surprise. Lamborghini moved 2539 cars in Q1 2022, a 4.8-percent increase over 2021. Revenue and profit for Q1 of this year are up too, with the company posting numbers of $617 million and $185 million, respectively.

The Huracán is Lamborghini's best-selling car ever, with over 20,000 road cars and 500 race cars sold since its launch in 2014. But it was the Urus that claimed the most deliveries in Q1 2022 in the U.S. with 411 units sold. The Huracán followed closely behind with 262 units, while the Aventador filled out the remaining 52 units. Lamborghini declined to share global sales by car at the time of writing.

Should this momentum continue, Lamborghini will have no problem breaking last year's sales record and cracking the five-figure mark in cars sold per year. The company plans to bolster its lineup with a new Urus trim, set to be revealed at Pebble Beach in August. The final Huracán variant—rumored to be a production version of the off-road-focused Sterrato concept—will come in December.

Beyond that, Lamborghini will launch its first series production hybrid model in 2023 before hybridizing its entire range by 2024. In 2028 the company will release its first pure EV, rumored to be a crossover.
