Lady Gaga Was All Sleeves And Diamonds In A Black Gown At The Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures

Lady Gaga took over the red carpet at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala on Saturday night, and there was a lot of competition. Stars treated the evening as an opportunity to look their most glamorous, but few can meet the dramatic elegance Gaga achieved in her sleek black and powder blue gown, with sleeves that seemed to drape almost to the ground.

The simplicity of Gaga's dress was the perfect setting for her elaborate accessories, which included Chopard earrings featuring 26.82-carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold. The earrings are from their 'Haute Joaillerie Collection.' On her hand she slipped on the 'Vague' ring from the 'Precious Lace Collection' featuring 1.32-carats of diamonds set in 18k ethical white gold.

The gala was co-chaired by Ava DuVernay, Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum, and honoured Sophia Loren and filmmaker Haile Gerima. The event also honoured Tom Hanks, Annette Bening and Bob Iger for their fundraising efforts on behalf of the museum, which opens to the public on September 30. The new 300,000-square foot-complex designed by famed architect Renzo Piano is located on the LACMA campus on Wilshire and Fairfax.

It's been an agenda item for the Academy for years to open this museum.

'We need to celebrate everything this town and the art form has brought to the world. The end result exceeds our dreams by about tenfold,' Hanks said when he took the stage. 'That’s what this building looks like to me, the world’s largest magic lantern that will transport us to another world.'

'I thought it would be great for our industry, but also for our community,' Iger said, in a pre-recorded video for the event. 'The thing I am most excited to see is a movie premiere — hopefully a Disney movie premiere — in this great David Geffen Theater.'

In addition to Gaga, the guest list included Brad Pitt, Regina King, Kristen Stewart, Nicole Kidman, Cher, Queen Latifah, Angela Bassett, Kate Hudson, Spike Lee, Patty Jenkins, Tiffany Haddish.
