La Palma volcano spews lava and smoke

Lava flowed down a new channel after a second cone on the Cumbre Vieja partially collapsed on Monday (October 25), according to a volcano scientist.

A first part of the main cone had collapsed on Saturday (October 23) morning.

Lava from the volcano has covered nearly 2,223 acres of land, destroying 2,000 buildings and many banana plantations since the eruption started on September 19.

More than 7,000 people have had to evacuate their homes so far.
