CCTV footage released by South Korea’s National Assembly, shows military aircraft landing and soldiers breaking into the building after President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday, December 3.Military forces were deployed to the National Assembly building after the declaration. Soldiers attempted to enter the parliament building.“President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law at 22:23 on December 3, and police closed the outer gates of the National Assembly starting at 22:50, preventing lawmakers and staff from entering”, the National Assembly said in the description accompanying this post.“The Ministry of National Defense sent approximately 230 armed martial law troops into the National Assembly complex via helicopters 24 times from 23:48 on December 3 to 1:18 on December 4. In addition, at 00:40, approximately 50 additional martial law troops were sent over the outer wall of the National Assembly.”The footage also shows soldiers attempting to enter the National Assembly building through the main and the rear entrance, resorting to “physical force” to storm the building.“The National Assembly did its best to block their illegal intrusion,” the post continued, “…and passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law at the plenary session at 1:00 am on December 4.”By 2:03 am, the soldiers had all withdrawn from the National Assembly. President Yoon lifted his declaration of martial law on Wednesday.The country’s main opposition began impeachment proceedings against Yoon hours later, while the country’s cabinet offered their resignations.
